Weird, only 12.29% of triple plays in MLB history are 5-4-3. I expected that to be nearer 50%.

Oh, and Swish, I hate data

Other tidbits:

-On June 15, 1989, Brothers Cal & Billy Ripken were the SS and 2B in a 6-4-3 TP for the Orioles against the Yankees.
-On August 29, 1969, 7 unique Braves fielders were the most players every to participate in a triple player- Orlando Cepeda 1b,Gil Garrido ss,Bob Didier c,Clete Boyer 3b,Pat Jarvis p,Felix Millan 2b,Rico Carty lf- in a 3*-6-2-5-1-4*-7* exchange
-On August 25, 1925, Indians catcher Luke Sewell took a throw from second baseman Freddy Spurgeon to make the second out of a 4-2-6 triple play and threw to his brother Joe Sewell for to register the third out.

(and, trivially, on the 6/18/1910 the database misspells Jim Delahanty as "Delananty". Fix it swish!! ;) )

Hmmm, disregard those total numbers for now...looks like excel got fooled by training spaces in some situations. Brooks was actually involved in 3 defensive TP's, so his career total is 7. Will re-post once I figure this out.

EDIT: fixed

I was at a game where the Phils turned a triple play against the Mets - May 15, 1999 - and let me tell you, it was weird. It happened so fast. One of those caught line drive in the infield with the runners going types. What I remember most of all is how the ball was hit, there was a bit of movement from the fielders, and then there was like this collective pause. No one really cheered, players all froze for a moment, then came walking in off the field... and you could kind of hear it collectively dawn on the crowd - including myself- what had happened, and as that happened a cheer started, and grew louder as more people got it.

Ahh yes, against the Mets. Piazza batting. Olerud on first, Alfonzo on second. That Kenny Ryan on the hill. Runner break on the pitch; Piazza lines to Alex Arias at short. Arias could have easily run to second for an unassisted triple play, but instead flipped the ball to Kevin Jordan at second who tagged the bag, and then tagged Olerud coming in standing from first.

Do I have a photographic memory or what.

Bid McPhee was always one of my favorite players. But I think I'm going to go by Germany Smith from now on. Or maybe Germany Smitty.

Oscar Madison missed the Mets turning a triple play because Felix called him at the stadium.

Orioles vs Red Sox (6-4-3)

The umps didn't call an infield fly, so Hardy threw to 2nd, runner on 2nd was tagged, step on 2nd, throw to 1st where the hitter that should've been on 1st was returning to the dugout instead. First one pulled off by Baltimore since 2000 and first hit into by Boston since 2001
