Chasssse Utley, You Are The Man

Meant to note this before: Chase Utley appeared in back to back NYT crosswords November 17-18. A double play of sorts.

L.A. shortstop Corey Seager, whose locker was next to Utley's, struggled to accurately describe Utley's impact when discussing the 15-year veteran last October, per the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett:

"He's a hard bird to kind of explain to people. I tell people all the time, 'I can tell you all the stories. I can tell you how he is. And you're going to look at me sideways and ask what's so great about him?' I'm telling you it's a presence. I don't know. He just brings out something that can't really be put into words until you see it first hand."

I hate signatures, but I love irony.

I have said for a while that it is almost like Seager idolizes him and I guess I wouldn't blame him. He even does some of the same goofy mannerisms.

Dodgers appear to have signed him to a 1-yr deal
Doug “visor-wearin’, sideline-glarin’, screen pass-callin’, fourth-down ballin’, division-leadin’, running-back feedin’, salt and pepper son of a gun” Pederson.

Tastes like a 3-year deal.

Feel like he'll get in with the Vet Committee, but it'd be nice if he could get 2000 hits and make it through the ballot.

1850 currently, had 73 last year in 353 PAs...his BABIP was very low but I can't see him getting that many PAs next year much less average it over 2. But sure hope he gets there. He also has 1850 games played, so he could get to 2000.
Very unlikely he will reach 300 HRs, currently at 258, only had 7 last year, hasn't been over 18 since 2009.
He did put up positive WAR on both o & d, 1.3 total.

cool story.

He's not one of their mlb top 30 prospects, but his numbers look decent. Maybe he's an eshelman type. Looks like he has exceptional control.

Went to see The Mother Hips at Milkboy last night. Talked to lead singer about coming back to Philadelphia (they are based in CA and don’t come out this way often), and he mentioned he has some connections here. He explained that a long time ago he was dating a girl (Erin, I believe) whose sister was named Jen Cooper. Jen was dating this “chill, stoner dude” who played baseball. One day that chill stoner dude got called up to the Phillies and later married Jen. His name is CHASE #$!&@ UTLEY.
