Rollisn came up at 21, all-star at 22. Utley came up at 24, all-star at 27.

Unfortunately that stuff matters to voters

You joke but that, the gold gloves and counting stats put Jimmy much closer to induction than Chase.

I can’t believe this is even a debate. Of course Rollins is closer to the HoF than Utley. He has the hardware and talked the talk for the team. Voters love his MVP/GG and “set the tone” playoff moments

I agree with Shore.

Rollins and Utley are both on the border. Trying to be as unbiased as I can as a Phils fan, I think Utley is should be in and Rollins maybe in with the Veterans' Committee. It depends if you're old-school or modern as a fan--the advanced numbers heavily favor Utley, but the counting stats and grit and 'leadership' and 'clutchiness' favor Rollins. (Clutchiness added for PTOITWCFTPP)

“We are the team to beat” then wins MVP and comes back from 7 with 17 to play. 20/20/20/20 was historic. That season is why Rollins is pretty close imo

With Phillies fans but not sure nationally if it's enough to get hall votes.

My completely unscientific research says jimmy Rollins had a bigger national profile than we here in the Delaware valley realize.

He’s got my vote, that’s for sure.

In what way? For a 10-year stretch, 2005-2014, Pujols, Utley, and Miggy were three most valuable players in baseball. Both bWAR and fWAR agree on that, and the order. A decade of dominant play, with a WFC, and all the jackoffs that hate modern baseball and write poetry about the pre-steroid era HAVE to love his throwback approach.

You'd think so but those jackoffs that hate modern baseball and write poetry about the pre-steroid are all over the place with their beliefs.

Chase will get in. It will take time, but he will be the next generation Edgar Martinez. He will be the cause celebre for the analytically inclined. There will be 3 billion articles very summer comparing him to Frankie Frisch or some other #$!&@ HOF 2b. Lock it up. Class of 2029. Please bump this when I am dead

Chase is 0-August/September (22 PA). Anyone heard if he'll be on the playoff roster?

The Athletic had a great piece up with players', coaches' and Phillies staff Utley stories https://theathletic.com/547834/2018/09/ ... nd-legacy/. I probably shouldn't post the whole article since it's paywalled, but I want to share a couple:

CHARLIE MANUEL, former Phillies manager
(Utley made the team in 2003 out of spring training as a bench player. He batted once in the season’s first five games, then was demoted to the minors when the Phillies needed an extra bullpen arm. Manuel, hired as a special assistant to the general manager, was summoned to the meeting with Utley and top club officials.)

First year I was there. Ed Wade was talking to him. They were sending him to Triple A. He looked at us, right straight in the eye, and said: “You #$!&@ must not want to win.” Just like that.

Actually, that’s the first time I was really getting to know him. I thought he was serious. I thought he was dead serious.

SCOTT SHERIDAN, Phillies head athletic trainer
My first year was 2007. We were in Kansas City. He makes a play behind second base and he ends up rolling around on the ground. He gets up. I’m the new trainer. He comes into the dugout. I walk over and go, “Hey, man, are you OK?” He goes, “I’ll #$!&@ let you know if I’m OK. You don’t need to #$!&@ see me.” Something like that. I was like, “All right.”

After the game, I’m pissed. I was trying to help this guy. What the hell? Is this what it’s like to be in the big leagues? And he actually came in later and said, “Hey, I’m sorry.” I said, “Not a problem. Let’s just come to an agreement. If you’re hurt, you’ll let me know. How about that?” That was the beginning of it all.

wonder if there's any precedent for moving a player to a coach role in the post season

Call it a career. He's not on the 25 man. Always the man to us.

Sounds like it. I hope so.
