verne lundquist prepares for retirement

The CBS broadcaster was a three-packs-a-day Marlboro man from 1956 to ‘92 before a doctor told him he had to quit.

Not sure where to put this, but the next ESPN 30 for 30 is "This Was the XFL". Looking forward to it!

afaik only sport to have an injury before the game (besides warmups)

they used to have a scrum instead of a coin toss, someone got hurt in one

Hey, those coin tosses are no joke either:

Robert Prat, who pulled his hamstring jogging out for the coin toss

Turk Edwards suffered a career-ending knee injury jogging back from a coin toss

Joe Buck is considering retiring (or cutting back?) following the 2019 World Series

"I love it, but I've been doing it for a long time and I feel like somebody else should do it. I've done enough. I'm signed for three more World Series, and that'll be 22, which is stupid to even think about. If somebody said right now, before I walk outta here, you’re done, I’ve had the greatest career, miles beyond anything I could have ever dreamed. But I would like to get some of my time back and be at home, be in St. Louis, be with my wife and watch my kids, even though they’re 20 and 17, and doing their own thing. I’ve been gone a lot this year, and I’m not crying about it. I love it. But I need to take stuff out."

Buck doesn't need to wait until 2019. He can do it tonight and it'll be fine.

Kate #$!&@'s GF goes public (Instagram)

As those who closely follow my page know, my ex-husband and I separated a year ago. Out of respect for that relationship, and in an attempt to honor the process of divorce, I had posted little about my new relationship with @katefagan3. That ends today. To be clear, my silence was about privacy and respect; not about fear and shame.

Weird how the curse filter doesn't allow Kate the Former Inquirer Basketball Writer's last name through.

Spencer Bingol from Crashburn Alley was hired by the Red Sox, likely to join their sabermetrics staff. TGP's Eric Chesterton will be the new CA site editor-in-chief

I know it has been said before but I still can't get over how bad CSNPhilly.com is. Main headline, headlines on side, headlines underneath, headlines on other side, multiple ads, popup videos, more ads, pictures, schedules at top, schedules at bottom, etc. Jesus Christ

i love how they still tease stories in commercials too. 'find out how the sixers made out tonight...coming up at 10!'
