welp...this morning Soton want the EPL to investigate LFC for improper contact with VVD. That's certainly one negotiating tactic.

Just pay an extra 10mill and they'll forget all about it.

I'm going into this transfer window assuming that we will see every spending record completely shattered. Van Dijk for $60 mil? An 18 year old striker for $135 million? Mourinho and Guardiola won't settle for anything less than spending a few hundred million on their respective teams. Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are all close to competing for a title, so they'll splash out on what they think is the missing piece. It's going to be crazy.

totally agreed - the TV money has everyone just silly. I'm seeing valuations of L10m for some of our squad player kids. We're basically going to sell off 80 million worth of guys we won't miss (except maybe Sturridge)

Spurs really only need squad depth. Our best 11 barely played last year and we had our best ever season in the Premier League, top offensive/defensive records, undefeated at home etc.

Yeah. Spurs were really good but they didn't make the playoffs.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

It sucks when a weird circumstance that's only happened once in the nearly 30 year history of the PL happens to you, yes that is true.

Think the scousers need a refresher on how to tap players up. Tapping a player up and then leaking it to the press before discussing a fee with the seller is not how you tap a player up.

Hmmm so we've formally apologized to Soton and ended our pursuit of VVD. probably for the best - now they want L75m for him - that is #$!&@ mental.

If you'd kept trying Soton would've reported you to the PL and who knows what would've happened, potentially a transfer ban.

Maybe you shouldn't have gone to the Soton well so many times.

All very likely. I like the Lindelof signing, but more importantly, the speed in which he was signed. Mourinho is a lot of things, but he is almost always the guy to get his transfer business taken care of as quickly as possible. It leaves the entire rest of the summer to integrate the new guys. I do agree Morata is likely our next target. I'm a bit skeptical on him, but I like his overall game. I just hope they give Rashford a chance as either a second striker, or a run of games being the sole striker. That kid is just so damn talented.

That's because outside of Porto and Inter he's always been at clubs that have endless money and so their version of negotiation is to accept the first valuation on the table in both fee and wages. This has nothing to do with Jose being some negotiation savant who can hammer out the best deal for his team in mega-quick time but the powers that be being able to say yes to whatever the other team tells them and then it gets done quickly.

The counter to that is deals in which the money is so high that even Mourinho and Woodward balk at saying yes straightaway - the Pogba transfer saga that took over 2 months.

The Pogba thing had a lot to do with his double dipping agent though.
