That's because what the Phillies play is not actually baseball.

i think it was technically 'missing rebuild'? listed franco, nola, eickhoff all struggling, jp crawford, etc.
I confess that I have never seen Markelle Fultz play a basketball game and I was not at his 76ers workout Saturday in Camden

Yeah, the major league season is going about as poorly as possible but it is way too early to call the rebuild a failure

Boston globe writer Cafardo says the Marlins might be looking to move Stanton at the deadline and the Phillies would be a logical destination

I've been thinking about this for about a month. I was going down the rabbit hole on a good defensive catcher and pitch framer we could acquire after watching Nola get squeezed. Stanton might actually be worth negative value right now with his contract. Especially, considering the Marlins are trying to sell the team. It's 10yr/295m after this season with a 2020 player opt out. The player I want from them is their catcher, J.T. Realmuto. He's getting better and better as a pitch framer and already plus offense/defense catcher. I'd trade Alfaro and Nick Williams for Stanton and Realmuto.

i think carfardo is mostly full of #$!&@. no idea why he'd have any inside scoop on the phils. here's what he said though:
None of us know where the Marlins sale will lead and what sidebars will come as a result, but this has become one of the most talked-about subjects among baseball people. One reason there’s so much intrigue is the elephant in the room — Giancarlo Stanton and his enormous contract.

There’s been plenty of speculation as to how it will end up, but there’s been significant chatter in a few organizations, most notably the Phillies, which tends to indicate the Marlins could have a route to dealing Stanton.

One scenario I heard in Philadelphia this past week was that the Phillies would not only seek Stanton but would also need Christian Yelich in any deal with Miami. The reason is that the Phillies don’t have the best outfield prospects.

definitely would need some incentive to absorb that contract.

Agreed. Especially for this team where we're not competing in the next 3 years. So he's either good for 3 meaningless years and can leave or he's bad and opts in and we're on the hook for $220 million for his 30-38 years. They got most of the good value out of the contract already. There's a reason they're trying to trade him.

That said, desperate times call for desperate measures, so it wouldn't be the worst move. It would look a lot better if they were on the hook for $50 million or so of the opt in money.

Phillies are still clinging to a 22-19 lead over the Cubs on Philly Sports Classics, but I'm pretty sure they're going to blow it. This guy Kingman is a beast.
