Too soon. They could surprise us today.

Think we'll know after 12th round. Hoping for Tristan Beck or Blaine Knight or a top high school arm. I'm a little confused though, can we like a pick if we haven't seen them in person?

Our HS pick Lindow chimed in:

Donuldethan2
2day has been so surreal and I couldn't be more happy, I'm so excited to start my pro career... dreams really do come true

He changed his header photo to a Phillies logo, changed his bio to "LHP in the Philadelphia Phillies Organization" and removed the references to UAB

Nathan Rode‏ @NathanRode 5m
#Phillies get SS Jake Holmes. Looks the part. Swung it a lot better this spring. At least 6 run. Might grow out of SS. #mlbdraft

Christopher Crawford‏Verified @Crawford_MILB
The Phillies got a good one in round 11 in Jake Holmes. A shortstop with plus speed and some power potential in his bat.

mlb has him at #132

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 60 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45
Pinnacle High School in Arizona has had three players taken in the Draft over the years, but none earlier than the 21st round, and none have ever reached the big leagues. Holmes should beat his predacessors by plenty, with some late helium this spring as the Draft approached.

Holmes is big, strong and athletic with some tools to dream on. While he's 6-foot-4, he is a 60 runner on the 20-to-80 scouting scale and maybe even better than that once he's underway. That should help him on the basepaths and gives him solid range while playing shortstop. It's possible he'll outgrow the position, where he has an average, sometimes a tick above, arm, once he physically matures, but he should be able to handle a move to third without a problem and his speed could work from the outfield. At the plate, he has good bat speed, strength and loft to his swing, though he's mostly been a line-drive hitter this year. He's struggled with good breaking stuff at times, but he has shown an ability to make adjustments in the past.

Holmes picked up steam with a big performance in front of a lot of eyes, with decision-makers pouring in to see him. He had a definite up arrow next to his name and could see his name go off the board in the top four rounds.

dave parkinson, lhp, ole miss

mlb has him at #152

Scouting grades: Fastball: 50 | Curveball: 50 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 50 | Overall: 45
Undrafted out of a Virginia high school in 2014 and Florence-Darlington Tech (S.C.) JC in 2015, Parkinson should be the first pitcher selected in the state of Mississippi this time around. There's nothing flashy about him, but he has been the Rebels' most consistent starter since moving into their rotation in mid-2016.

Parkinson's best pitch is his slider, which grades as plus when at its best. His fastball sits at 88-92 mph and reaches 94, standing out more for its life than its velocity. He also has aptitude for throwing a changeup and will spin a curveball to give hitters a different look.

Parkinson succeeds by mixing pitches and filling the strike zone. At the next level, he projects as a back-of-the-rotation starter and also could help as a situational reliever whose fastball would be firmer and whose slider would be sharper in shorter stints.

Frankie Piliere‏ @FPiliereD1
#Phillies 13th rounder Colby Fitch @UofLBaseball is going to be very solid hitter as a pro. Good approach and has power

mlb has him at #145
Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 45 | Run: 30 | Arm: 50 | Field: 45 | Overall: 45
Gatorade's 2014 Missouri high school player of the year, Fitch spent much of his first two years at Louisville as a backup to Will Smith, a Dodgers 2016 first-rounder. The Cardinals' pitching staff hasn't skipped a beat this spring with Fitch behind the plate and his offensive potential as a left-handed-hitting catcher should help him in a Draft weak at that position.

Though he slumped for much of March and April, Fitch still stands out more on offense than defense. He has a disciplined approach, employing a compact swing, working counts and using the whole field. He makes a lot of hard contact and projects to have double-digit home run power at the next level.

Fitch's defensive game still requires more refinement. He has an average arm but needs to get more consistent with his footwork and accuracy. He's a serviceable receiver who'll have to work on his lateral movement.

Honestly, the MLB draft is pretty dumb with the way it goes.

the whole concept of slotting overslotting and guys going where they go based on if you spent more or less money earlier seems a bit goofy to me. that and the concept of the amount of guys who get picked and then decide 'nah, im not gona play now'.

Took our first flyer on HS LHP Shane Drohan in the 23rd round. #80 on MLB and #106 on BA. We will agonize for a month about whether he will sign or not but probably under 5% chance. Is an FSU commit. I feel a lot different about this draft if you take him in the 3rd round over Seabold.

The dream is already over it appears:

The Philadelphia Phillies selected Shane Drohan with the eighth pick in the 23rd round (683 overall), but it does not appear he will be heading to the Phillies’ system.

“It’s been an honor to be on this ride all the (way) up up to the draft,” Drohan said in a text message. “I want to thank the Philadelphia Phillies for giving me the opportunity to start my professional career, but I will be attending Florida State University.”
