The Philadelphia Phillies selected Shane Drohan with the eighth pick in the 23rd round (683 overall), but it does not appear he will be heading to the Phillies’ system.

“It’s been an honor to be on this ride all the (way) up up to the draft,” Drohan said in a text message. “I want to thank the Philadelphia Phillies for giving me the opportunity to start my professional career, but I will be attending Florida State University.”

Drohan just retweeted that article too.

#28 Sullivan:

Sullivan now has a difficult decision. He must decide to either sign with the Phillies and forgo playing for the Blue Hens or attend Delaware, which would require playing three seasons before he's eligible to be drafted again.

The fact that it was the Phillies who drafted him complicates the situation.

"I've got to sit down with my family and talk about it," Sullivan said. "Going into the draft I said I wanted to be in the top 20 to 25 rounds so the Phillies drafted me in the 28th, the hometown team, my favorite team. It does make it a little tougher."

Asked if the Phillies are confident they can sign Sullivan, Almaraz said, "Yes, we believe so. Things are very positive."

Sullivan participated in a 1 1/2 hour workout at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday. After warming up in the bullpen, Sullivan threw 20 pitches in front of the Phillies' scouts and personnel, using his entire repertoire (fastball, curveball and changeup).

The Phillies, the only team he worked out for, told Sullivan they were eyeing him between Rounds 15 through 30.

"I had never been on the Phillies' field before so stepping on there was pretty awesome," Sullivan said. "At first I was a little nervous, but I've pitched so many games in my life I just thought of it as another game. I saw Charlie Manuel there, which was pretty cool so that was a little nerve-wracking."

How does the food come out

In a family size bucket... seriously I was there two weeks ago passing through and craved Long Johns and saw that... should have taken a pic... I went inside and waited like 20 minutes for the crack staff to get me my food with no one else in line

Is there a reason they just don't handle the transaction by hand?

Maybe they are afraid of coming out of the restaurant in fear of getting shot... the 2017 version of Hazleton is like a Grand Theft Auto town

This is #$!&@ amazing. Truly the gem of the draft.

Wow... I didn't know there was a YouTube video!

Well...Who's going to rate this draft? I don't have enough knowledge to do it myself but I'd like to see some opinions on this draft.

There's no reason to rate this, or any draft immediately after the fact. You wait 5 or 6 years and see what came out of it.

Obviously, only time will tell but I thought it was safe, boring and lacking high-upside players. Haseley was a solid pick but I would have preferred Shane Baz or JB Bukauskas. As Squire pointed out, "For people who say Smith was redundant I would argue that we have even more guys who have to play CF to be valuable". Odubel, Altherr, Quinn, Moniak and now Haseley all are most valuable playing CF. That's not a terrible problem to have because we could form a nice defensive outfield.

My biggest issue with the draft is we had the opportunity to take our pick of high-end high school arms at #45. Sam Carlson was a guy I would've been happy with at #8 (under slot) and he went later in the round. Matt Sauer, Hans Crouse, Blayne Enlow and Jacob Heatherly would all have been incredible arms to add to our system. I really liked Mark Vientos (3B) or Nick Allen (white Jimmy Rollins) at #45 too. We'll see how much they get for bonus's but I suspect they all could have been had for slot or just slightly above. I think Spencer Howard is a good prospect with some upside just not at #45.

I really didn't like the Connor Seabold pick. Our system has a ton of "if everything goes right" MLB back-end rotation RHP's. We had already gone safe with the first 2 picks. Let's see what his bonus is because it was nice to get 4th-5th round talent Jake Holmes in the 11th. I'll take a deeper dive into the picks once we see who signs (or doesn't) and for how much. The bottom line with these baseball drafts though is if Haseley becomes an Adam Eaton type player, Spencer Howard becomes a solid 8th inning arm or back-end starter and another guy becomes an above replacement-level MLB player it was a good to great draft.

Zolecki article today indicates that 11th Rounder Jake Holmes expected to sign as early as today.

The draft was late this year and with Williamsport season starting Monday 6/19, I am sure they are signing guys a breakneck pace. We still have 4 guys in the College World Series though (Seabold, Guthrie, Fitch and the FSU 1Bman).

Williamsport is going to be absolutely loaded.
