Is he drawing his hands back to load like Mikel does (which has always been part of his issue)?

pretty nice night on the farm.

ortiz was said to be showing good plate discipline in xst. 1/1, 2b, rbi, 3 r, 3 bb

young - 5 ip, 2 h, 0 r, bb, 6 k
kilome - 5 ip, 5 h, 1 er, 2 bb, 4 k
appel - 8 ip, 4 h, 0 er, 2 bb, 7 k

edit - they actually sent appel out for the 9th. walk, k, single and his night is done at 119 pitches. pinto gets the last two to preserve his great night.

Alfaro calls it a career.

Great night on the farm. Have to love even with Hoskins struggling in June, before tonight, he was walking more than striking out during slump. Mark Appel has a Phillipe Aumont vibe to him.

What's gotten into Appel lately?

He's been getting lucky with balls in play. Still walks too many guys and doesn't strike enough out. He'll be 26 in a month too. As I said above, Phillipe Aumont 2.0. He'll tantalize you for a few innings or a game but something's just missing. In Appel's case it's mental (with runners on base), he has a fastball with no movement and there's no deception in his delivery. I think he can be a decent bullpen arm but will always be prone to a big inning.

Thanks, love these breakdowns.

On a side note, my brother was at the Cutters-Spikes game last night. Said the ball Stobbe hit was the longest HR ever hit at Medlar.

Jake Thompson had his first good outing in almost a year with 6k, 6h, 2bb.... dusty baker took him out after 115 pitches at the end of 8.
