Technically this is the first year we are without question in the group of death

FiveThirtyEight has a quiz to determine who you should root for. I did it twice and got South Korea and Sweden, both happen to be in Mexico's group. #$!&@ Mexico.
Quick Google shows that GoGo is wrong with regards to the Kiwi and the Banana.

I haven't decided who , or even if, I'll root for. But "#$!&@ Mexico" will give me enough of a rooting interest for at least a little while.

They're with Germany, so just need one of those underdogs to step up big.

#$!&@ that go with France

1) One of the most exciting young talents in the world with Mbappe. Only 18 years old but he has the poise and skill of a striker in his prime (Also the two Dembeles and Kingsley Coman and Anthony Martial)
2) Incredible depth and versatility in the midfield
3) Legit superstars you want to watch in Pogba/Griezmann
4) Lloris is a god amongst mere mortals
5) France still has the best goddamn anthem in the world

The one negative is Griezmann's goal celebration
I had a meeting at the Pentagon with lots of generals. They were like from a movie. Better looking than Tom Cruise & stronger.

I got Spain, even though they don't count as an underdog.

Any Catalans on Spain? I hate to be on the wrong side of history.

The process is underway for standout 18-year-old midfielder Jonathan Gonzalez to switch his international allegiance from the United States to Mexico.

Gonzalez has informed U.S. Soccer of his intention to file a change of association, U.S. Soccer sources told Goal on Monday. The notification is part of the process required by FIFA to switch association after representing another association at the youth level. Gonzalez was born in California and played for the U.S. at the U-17 and U-20 levels but looks set to don the green of El Tri as soon as possible.

Posting this here as we have been discussing youth development in the US off and on for a while. This is a link to a documentary on youth development and academies in the UK. I found it very interesting and, also, scary. I see some of the same mistakes that some of those interviewed allude to happening here in the States.

I had zero expectations for this, and the first half hour has not disappointed.

Almost nothing has happened. I'm annoyed I didn't bet on this ending 0-0.

2nd half has been a lot better. We're creating chances, and we gave away a #$!&@ penalty which their guy dutifully missed.
