Finally watched it, very superficial and sometimes laughable re-telling of events that have been pretty much known for years. Pacino does pretty well, but given the way they portray Joe as being mostly a bystander to every conversation, an unknown actor would have been better for the story.

Heard the "riot" scenes were pretty over-dramatized too.

Sounds like one of those things they will get worked out, probably trying to get a better deal.

@BigTenNetwork
Comcast XFinity has decided unilaterally to drop BTN in many markets. All of their competitors still carry BTN everywhere. We at BTN share your disappointment. Let Comcast know how you feel.

@Matt_Fortuna
Some potential college football news dropped by the Pirates just now: Bucs move their Sept. 8 game vs. Marlins from 7:05 to 1:05 ET "to allow the University of Pittsburgh to schedule its gridiron clash with Penn State University at night.

Comcast viewers who live in states with colleges that are part of the Big Ten Conference — which include Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland — can still watch the college-sports network on their Xfinity TV package. But millions of Comcast subscribers in New England, the West Coast and southern states will be out of luck as the pay-TV industry deals with huge costs for live sports in an era of low-cost streaming services.

Crazy recruiting list for Blue/White game this weekend. Weather looks like it will be perfect too.

Funny that camping, hiking, paddling, caving, and scuba are too dangerous for Penn State student, but football...

too risky to go anywhere that there is not cell service, so stay inside.

PSU reporting: http://www.collegian.psu.edu/wire/news/ ... 95f82.html

Penn State conducted a "proactive risk assessment" not based on any previous participant injuries, according to Powers. She said Outing Club activities were rated high risk because they take place in remote environments with poor cell service and distance from emergency services.

Makes perfect sense from a liability standpoint. Now those kids can continue to do those activities without school funding and school liability. I don't know how much assistance either club got from Club Sports (or whomever was funding them at the end), but it was more than nothing. Sucks for those involved.

This isn't about mcl's, twisted ankles or even concussions...

This is about liabilty in a school sanctioned activity within an uncontrollable environment and the greater potential for negligence and illegal activity that may put the school at risk both criminally and civily. This was probably recommended by the school's insurance companies and their risk assessment teams.

Christina Platt, the Outing Club's incoming president, said, "I can hardly blame Penn State for protecting itself against further litigation after a number of high-profile scandals in the past decade."

Compare it to an annual 10 week period where 22,000 youth between middle and high school hike out into the New Mexico Rocky Mountains, or the arguably more remote Northern Tier program which is paddling into a vaguely known course. That seems more risky by a lot, but these programs are headed to a 100 year mark. Yes, people do die in the back country, but people also die in cities and small town America ever day. It just seems a little too concerned with liability. Have more people died in the outdoor club or at a fraternity house?

It's all about risk vs. reward. Fraternities and football bring (waaaaaay) more money to PSU than outdoor activities do, so they're worth the safety risk.
