No more defending from me, not that it matters. Chambers has to go.

Chambers makes just over $1M. Lowest paid coach in the Big Ten by far.

They're going to spend around $2.3M on the next hire FWIW.

As is said so often in Phillies threads, "Not my money." But, of course, it kinda is...

But if that's what it takes to compete in the B1G, then that's what needs to be done. Otherwise, what's the point?

Nate Oates has probably coached himself above PSU. Tim Cluess would be a nice get. Nathan Davis from Bucknell?

Good example of the transfer portal overreaction by fans, too. I think people forgot that these guys can come back.

No, I think the fans reaction was accurate. They immediately got rid of all of his stuff when he went in the portal. He is lucky they lost a bunch of backups and depth guys or he would have been told don't let the door hit you.

To clarify, I didn't mean re: Wade specifically, but just in general. The whole point of the portal is to make it easier for guys to explore their options, and while most will end up leaving, some may not.

He's a jump ball kinda guy. We will miss him I think. Big receiver with good hands. He was definitely going to start at VT. Or at least be in the top rotation.

Lots of players do not like Fuente. Guess after his position coach left for Alabama he figured time to go. There are younger guys that can pass him, for sure. But we will miss the leadership of a guy who hss been around for years.

I can't remember the last time we got a grad transfer that actually contributed.

It's a fairly new concept to begin with. Pretty sure Jeremiah Masoli in 2010 was the first big-name player to take advantage of it, and even then only 17 guys grad transferred in 2011 (when Russell Wilson did). That number was up to 168 by 2017.

The timing just hasn't really fit how PSU has operated. The rise of it coincided with PSU's scholarship issues, then with Franklin trying to establish his presence here. Bringing in guys from the outside is risky for a "normal" program let alone one that's had the past decade that PSU has. It also doesn't really jive with Franklin's heavy emphasis on education, either.

I'm sure he would if these guys were actually transferring to complete one.

Idk, I don't see any reason to panic. Of those transferring:

* 5 grad transfers, none who projected to contribute heavily
* Lamont Wade - per Brantt, a complete bust, but played most out of these guys the past two seasons. Also posted "wasn't my decision" on social media, so could be a case of Franklin letting him save face by "transferring" or maybe something personal?
* Alex Gellerstadt - 3rd year JR OT, maybe a little concerning for depth reasons
* Isaiah Humphries - freshman DB, "just didn't seem to like State College" was how Greg Pickel described this one
* Dae'lun Darian - reserve LB, moving closer to home due to family issues
* Brelin Faison-Walden - reserve LB, moving closer to home due to family issues
* Danny Dalton - 5th on TE depth chart

Is Gellerstadt decent? He didn't make the 2 deep with you guys, but he was higher rated out of HS than almost any OL we've (Virginia) brought in recently.
