Like most Vegas Vacations they came home empty handed.
Drunk and stupid is no way to be remembered but it is an easy way to forget.

But I took them away from all that. Now they work for me.

Rotoworld retraction...

Lane Adams - OF - Phillies
Phillies signed OF Lane Adams to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Adams would make $570,000 in the majors. The 29-year-old has hit .269/.340/.478 over 151 plate appearances with the Braves between 2017-2018. He could surface with the Phillies as a bench player this year.

Padres announced this weekend that Myers will be moving back to the OF. Hopefully that opens up 3B for Maik. Love the idea of trading with the Friars. Their system is so loaded that getting their 9th-10th ranked prospect would be like getting a top 5 from most other organizations.
I hate signatures, but I love irony.

@jaysonst
Talked with a baseball official about the luxury tax mess the #Nationals would find themselves in if they signed Harper. He said they’d be stuck in the 90 percent tax bracket pretty much “forever.”

in a blog post, tangotiger the godfather of war-stats and now a major part of the statcast development team points out that the ball-tracking stats say that pivetta was hurt much more than was nola by the phils dreadful defense.
for this, tango used and advanced version of uzr produced by his long-time collaborator and uzr inventor mgl. therefore, this complements and confirms the mlb.com post of last week that used a bunch of other statcast data to point out the same thing.

of 166 pitchers with 350+ batters faced, pivetta ranked 101st in actual woba allowed... but 33rd in expected woba based on batted ball trajectory. eflin and vv move from 92nd and 108th to 42nd and 44th. arrieta has a less dramatic shift from 86th to 78th. meanwhile, nola barely moves but actually drops... all the way from 5th to 6th.

by expected woba, possible trade targets kluber and bauer were much better than pivetta... but free agents corbin, morton, happ and keuchel were not.

Is there any measurable way to denote the distinction between our failure to execute (i.e. bad gloves) vs. failed strategy (i.e. bad shifts)?

He has a great name. Lane Adams. Who couldn't like a guy with that name.

He's part Choctaw and he's a tremendous athlete.

His stats are decent.

Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Seems that would be pretty easy to measure--is there a player in the vicinity of a batted ball? If yes, did the player make the play or not? I mean, you just look at balls in play, and determine whether a player was nearby.

Heyman agrees with Bob (and Scott Merkin, the White Sox version of Zolecki)

scottmerkin
White Sox seven-year offer to Manny Machado has not changed, per source.

JonHeyman
Am hearing Chisox have not changed their number original 7 year offer as of now. @scottmerkin and @BNightengale said this as well but earlier

The Phillies don't believe Machado is close to signing with the White Sox, that much I can tell you.
