-- Discussion thread -- All time fantasy draft

Postby FTN » Fri Dec 05, 2008 7:26 pm

So I had this idea today walking home from the gym. It would be kind of cool to have a fantasy draft, just on paper, and assemble a 25 man roster using every player who ever played the game. Because of the huge player pool, instead of just using 12 teams like the standard fantasy draft, we could expand it and allow up to 30 teams. My thought was simple:

25 man roster

C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF x 5, CI, MI, DH, 5 SP and 7 RP

Simple guidelines. The winter is long, spring training is a ways off. We could just use a thread, determine an order, and then just check in and pick as we go. I'll do the administrative work. I think it would be pretty damn cool to compare the teams when all is said and done.

The only "requirement" would be that you plan to be here frequently, and you won't disappear for weeks at a time, thus short circuiting the process. If there is interest, we can give it a whirl.

I have interest and I really never leave these boards. And if I have to for some strange reason, I now own a laptop. I'm in.

I like it. I'm in.

Questions-

Will we be basing our seasons on careers, or single seasons?

Do we include pre-1900 players, and negro league players?

Also, are you planning on generating a season using some sort of baseball simulator?

How would you determine position eligibility? Perhaps no multiple eligibility but the position where they played the most games?

1. Career
2. I'm thinking that we limit it to players who played after 1919, and that we only include players who played in major league baseball. Theres really no objective way to determine how good the Negro League guys were.
3. I don't own any simulation type stuff. But it would be interesting to possibly do that.

I think the best way to do this is

A. 1,000 games played at the position
B. 80% of the games played at a certain position
C. If neither A or B apply, simple majority

Example would be Ryan Braun. 112 G at 3B, 149 in LF. So he wouldn't qualify for either A or B, so he only qualifies in the OF.

I thought it might be best to just use general OF spots, but we can break it up if need be.

Robin Yount is another example.

SS, 1479 G
CF, 1150 G

So he'd be dual eligible.

Yeah, I was being optimistic.

I think if we can get 16 people who are determined to stick it out, we can crank it out.
