Young RP aside, this team did a pretty good job of matching the team name, manager, and era. So many pre-WWII guys who played in Philadelphia in the starting 8.

I think Eddie Collins was on all 5 Philly A's championship teams, too though he barely played on the last two.

Beltran is there for his Gold Glove defense in Center Field and his speed to the lineup.

I did not like having to draft a " current " Met, so I do expect some bias from that selection on a Phil's board LOL, but if you actually look objectively at his defense/speed/runs He is a decent player.

Joe Dimaggio, considered one of the finest CF to play has an RFg of 2.71, Beltrans is 2.72.

Neautralized stats are not too shabby for a Gold Glove CF :

105 Runs 29 HR 101 RBI 30 SB per 162 average. 6.7 RC/G

Defense does count, you still have to catch the ball to win. Some teams drafted on hitting alone, I tried to balance the hitting/defense/speed as a real team would.

Arguably in the top half of pure Center Fielders that were drafted.

Don't forget: 275-312....88.1% SB% for Beltran. That's, um, good.

Still hate him though.

I love Connie Mack's starting early round picks- Foxx, Berra, Simmons, Spahn- all studs and all guys I had targeted coming into the draft.

Statistically, I'm sure this is a standout bullpen, but I question whether constructing a bullpen purely of modern day relievers is the best way to get the most value. That is a philosophy difference that I will end up having with most teams though.

Very interesting squad- one I expect will do very well in simulation.
