I've got no problem with that. As long as he's toast the second he puts somebody on base.

Manuel

"Tough thing for me to do. all the respect in the world in brad. i was sitting there and i didn't have a very good feel about the game. made up my mind that i wanted to try madson. yeah real tough. when i say he's my closer, i don't tell lies. i don't like to go back on something. the team and the game is bigger than my heart and it's bigger than anything else to tell you the truth."

"you know something, he could definitely be. im definitely not going away from him. work with him and get him back to being consistent. i look at him as a closer. not a 7th inning guy or an 8th inning guy. definitely not.

"told him i wanted Madson and to come into my office as the game was over."

"i was going. decided i was going. didnt have a real good feeling. was putting madson in the game. when he hit the guy. when he hit the guy, i felt it. things havent gone his way but he's been inconsistent. inconsistent in his pitching

"when i spoke with him he was fine. he's disappointed. disappointed in himself. this guy wants to close every game he's out there. part of his problem too. at the same time, command is definitely his biggest problem.

"madson did one heck of a job. faced two toughest hitters in lineup. showed me something tonight. thats baseball. used fastball and went after them. then got them with changeup.

"i thought about yesterdays day game. made sure i was gonna play him. looked at the sheet and knew he hit good against this team.

"pedro pitched good. dont forget pedro. heck of a job. 119 pitches."

"dont read into nothing. i don't know what i'll do. im trying to win games."

Lidge

"yeah we won the game and thats the bottom line. madson did a great job picking me up. chucks been awesome. had a feeling about that one and madson came in and did a great job."

"blister is fine."

"its been pretty much... yeah. first two pitches were right where i wanted them. hit it over chases head. command of fastball in stretch is poor. hit a guy. walked a guy. madson picked me up. been a struggle all year with command out of the stretch.

"yeah he said i was so thats it."

"we won the game today and I wasn't happy with how i threw. wish i could stay out there. we won the game and he didnt have a good feeling about it. thats it really. if theres a save situation he said he's going to send me out there. keep grinding. hopefully this month ill be able to get it together and get ready for the postseason."

"yeah of course. you always want to stay out there."

Charlie is in a tough situation... I feel bad for him. He never asked to be a major league baseball manager.

if i went out and pitched to major league batters, i think i'd feel pretty good too. they'd probably hit the #$!&@ out of my 57mph fastball, but i'd still feel pretty good
