BIGPELF 9/12

Someone named Marco Estrada is making his first start for the Nats tonight. Hopefully he proves baffling if they ever play tonight.

No he can't. He's John Maine. He probably hasn't gotten through 6 in 70 pitches since he was in high school.

In a weird way, this is good. The Cardinals play the Marlins next and need some motivation to actually win those games.

It's also fine because the Braves have lost eight more games than we have right now. And we have 22 games left. If the Braves pass us, the collapse would be more than epic, and the Marlins will have passed us anyway in all likelihood.

From Zolecki:
Ryan Madson is 1-3 with a 7.82 ERA and 7 saves in 13 save opportunities this season. Opponents have hit .352 against him.

Opponents are "only" hitting .295 against Lidge.
This is a simple game. You throw the ball, you hit the ball, you catch the ball.

The Phils have two of the top three blown save leaders in MLB. Seeing that is turning my mind into puddle of gravy.

On the bright side, the bats came to play today. This was the type of loss that can be a soul crushing season killer (depending on the psyche of the team, if they dwell on it, etc.). Tomorrow may very well tell us how/if this loss effected the team. If the players see this loss as just 1 loss in the L column, don't assign blame, don't dwell on it, and take the above positive (bats woke up) to heart, they'll be fine... perhaps it may even serve as a positive "wake up" motivator. We'll know the effect in the coming week or so.

(yep, it took me this long to calm down to a somewhat rational level)

I'd be shocked if the Phillies have had their soul crush.

Well Wright did manage to match 25% of his season's HR output in one game. Maybe if anyone on this staff could have gotten Tatis out in the game it wouldn't have mattered, especially since Tatis sucks it mightily

An odd note about this game: the Phils pitchers didn't walk anyone or strike out anyone....first time in 10 years

This game was not easy to get over. I didn't look at practically any of the afternoon game I was so hurt & drained emotionally by yesterday. Pedro helped tonight, but honestly I'm still kind of pissed at the whole team except for him right now.

I know, magic # is 14 and they've got a 6.5 game lead with three against the Nationals. But yesterday really, really, really sucked. I haven't been that pissed off leaving CBP since probably 2004.

carlos ruiz made a pretty nifty throw in the eighth inning.

3-4 is 3-4 my man.

It sucks, but this afternoon probably made up for it since everyone figured Kendrick would get blown out. 3/4 is 3/4

It wouldn't have been so bad except I was there. I couldn't turn it off or look away or anything. I was trapped for every excruciating minute of that garbage.
