Then why is it that everytime somebody gets a chance, they $#@! themselves?

Madson had his crack and was awful. Bert had a half a crack and was bad and got hurt.

Would I have a problem if they cut Lidge tomorrow? No. But as long as he's around, I've got no beef with trying to catch lightning in a bottle again by getting him right for the playoffs.

Like I keep saying, somebody's gotta be the guy.

Then we should use Walker or Madson or someone else. Madson did pretty well as a closer the second time around, no? Or did he blow one? I can't even keep it straight anymore.

I'm so done with Lidge.

Apparently Madson being awesome as a closer and occasionally blowing one is a worse alternative than Lidge sucking EVERY time and sometimes being lucky enough to get a save.

Madson blew that Mets game, didn't he? Eh at least his blown saves are on home runs. It doesn't have the awful build up.

whens the last time you saw lidge bury a slider with bako catching?

exactly. last time he did bako missed and put the tying/winning run in scoring position.

lidge still has to make pitches, but when the only real out pitch he has is taken away, he's stuck with a mediocre fastball.

I think the one thing we all can agree on is that Lidge won't be hosting the 2009 team highlight DVD...

How is Bako missing the pitch any worse than what happened anyway? At least there is a chance Bako could catch it. If you throw a hanging slider right down the middle, there is not much of a chance it won't be drilled. Again, Lidge needs to stop #$!&@ worrying about Bako and just pitch.

Madson also gave up a HR to David Wright. Lidge blows games against other teams' version of Cairo.

until the Phils blow this and miss the playoffs, at which point he'll be the clear choice.

in fairness, i don't think lidge really has any idea where the ball is going. he sucks so bad it wouldn't surprise me if he's trying to throw it in the dirt.

This division is clinched. This team is going to the playoffs.

Probably the biggest question left is whether or not Lidge can be the closer in October. So every day from here until the end of the season, Charlie should be figuring out the answer to that question.

Now, I think it's pretty clear. And everybody else thinks it's pretty clear. But I've got no beef with spending the next week trying to get his ass right, even if it costs a game or two or three.

The only caveat: If he's still sucking the donkey once the seasons change from "Regular" to "Post-", his ass best not even be on the roster.

what. Have you been watching the last 6 months? What could he possibly do in two weeks that would outweigh 6 months of utter and complete suckitude? Charlie should drag him out behind the stadium and shoot him like Old Yeller

Old Yeller.

So what I am getting from SportsNite is that most important Philly athletes are injured, except Elton Brand, who is really, really healthy
