I've seen a few news stories in the past couple of days about how much him running is costing the state in police protection costs and that he may have used state phones or something to make federal fundraising calls. He's embarrassing himself nationally and hurting himself locally.

That Perry ad is like an SNL parody where his supporters would probably comment after seeing it "c'mon now, that's a bit of an exaggeration"

On the not ideal front, Iran showed video of the downed drone. It was in pretty good shape, which isn't good. It looks like the US may have lost communication with it. It didn't really look like it was shot down.

drones aren't really super-di-duper self-contained high tech, are they? Isn't that part of the point (expendability, interchangeability, the OS for the information system is more important than the device in the field, etc)?

In other words, they haven't captured a nuclear weapon, nor can they reverse engineer a system for operating drones from their capture of one aircraft. Sure, you'd like the thing to go up in a puff of blue smoke before they can take it apart, but one landing in their mitts does not equal game over.

I doubt they can reverse engineer it and make their own drones, but I suspect they can do some real harm with it--for instance, sell it to say the Chinese. And it seems likely that they can also study it and find vulnerabilities.

There is some suggestion that the Iranians are displaying a mock up, but I don't know how credible those claims are.

surely it was never imagined that not a single one of these things would ever conk out in unfriendly territory. Aren't they deployed on missions by the bushel-basketful?

Lots of different kinds of drones out there, with different levels of expendability. This was I believe one of our most secret and sensitive and probably expensive ones.

I would assume the bigger concern would be their getting their hands on any reconnaissance video/data... ie, don't want them to know what we know.
