Philadelphia Restaurants: Second Seating

Suburban Edition.

Han Dynasty has a city location, but the original is in Exton. Third Wednesday of each month there is a 20-course tasting menu. BYOB, $25 per person cash only.

Been wanting to do that for a long time and finally made it last night. You get seated at a round table with other diners. We had about a dozen people.

The food is spicy hot, but tolerably so. I guess I've done a pretty deep dive on Sichuan cuisine, because there was not one thing served that was unfamiliar to me. I thought it was uniformly excellent, but Mrs TP found it "good but not great."

My expectations was that this event was designed for Chinese Americans. I expected to be the only non-Chinese person there, but I was wrong. At our table, Mrs TP and her son were the only Chinese. Everyone else was just a well-traveled adventurous eater, and they made for fascinating dinner conversation. We agreed that the company was the best part of the meal. With tip, three of us enjoyed this feast for $90.

We'll do it again.

we did the family style dinner at Perla for a friends birthday. holy moly was it good. a def must.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/pVC5hD854TqS8MUt5

served a sweet roll to start. then rolled out garlic fried rice on banana leaves. Covered that with vegetables(brussels, bok choy, okra, acorn squash, grean beans) then they tossed on quartered chickens, whole monk fish, pork belly, and lumpia. added a few dipping sauces on the side. 40$ a person and so worth it.

Went to Will BYOB on Sunday. Everything was quite good but just ever so slightly underseasoned for me. People with better palates probably would like it even more. Solid tasting menu for 45 bucks.

They had some cheese, Castelrosso, that I don't think I've ever had before and was absolutely delicious.

Tried to get into Cheu Noodle Bar for a late lunch on Christmas Eve, but alas it was closed.

Ended up at Yamitsuka. They have a great lunch deal: Any ramen bowl + pork or chicken bun + soda for $12.

I got the deluxe bowl with both chicken and pork. It was superb, even better than my previous visit. It's better than Terakawa.

Mrs. TP got some spicy ramen which, to me, utterly destroys the spirit. It loses all the nuance that is the signature of Japanese food. It becomes a bowl of Korean noodles; still good, but why?

Restaurants calling to confirm reservations and requiring a call back should be made illegal. I will vote for anyone that proposes this. Text messages or die.

That said, going to Oyster House for restaurant week tomorrow!

Finally made it the Oyster House after so long I can't even freaking remember how long. New chef Aaron Gottesman (from the fantastic Hearhthside in Collingswood plus Vernick and Fat Ham)has been getting raves, but we didn't really test him since we just shared a dozen oysters, tried the clam chowder and snapper soup and a side of cauliflower. Everything was delicious though. Only odd thing is that they don't automatically bring you their fantastic gin list unless you ask. We chose a couple we hadn't tried for an excellent martini and gimlet. Glad we got there early, by 6:30 there was a line out the door. They don't take reservations for parties less than six, so you have to hit it at the right time, and not be picky about where you sit.
Which part? And who are you?

My girlfriend living two blocks from Cheu has severely increased my ramen intake.

Not that I'm complaining.

10th street and standard miso ramen with a brisket ramen when i need a change up. The karaagee chicken rice bowl is pretty good when I'm all brothed out.

Hmmmm. It was a foobooz article that seems to have been removed but I guess my browser was loading a cached version. Here's their IG: https://www.instagram.com/neighborhoodramen/
