Appears the new Chase Sapphire Reserve card is subject to the 5/24 rule :( Good luck to those who apply today.

My credit score is probably not good enough for that. I just got a Discover It card, sort of by accident. I started the application on line hoping to apply for a credit transfer from my one card which is just off its promo rate, but instead was instantly approved for $5500.

I got the card, registered, and my max balance transfer request is the credit line. I'm an idiot when it comes to finances and #$!&@, but if my understanding is correct if I do a $5500 transfer would the credit line bump up to $11000 (original credit line + transfer)? If so, this amount doesn't cover my whole balance on the old card, would it be idiotic to purchase the rest of the balance and take advantage of my 12 month intro APR on Discover?

How old is your Discover card? I believe every couple of weeks you can get a credit line increase online without a credit pull. The way I thought it worked was if you have a 5.5k CL, and you want to bring over 5k in a Balance Transfer from another card, it eats up that 5.5k and gives you only 500 left in credit. Unless you are talking about two Discover cards and combining them together.

yeah, balance transferred funds definitely count against your credit line. they'll probably give you more if you ask though

The Discovery card is new.. and that makes more sense. I guess I was being naively optimistic to hope it would turn my 5.5/5.5 to 5.5/11 or w/e I do. And they're different companies.

I guess I'll have to call Discover this week and see what I can work out.

Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

R/churning seems to indicate you can get around the 5/24 by applying in branch FWIW.

That's what I am seeing, not sure where closest branch is to me. Maybe Trenton?

only if pre-approved though? could be a hell of a drive to find out you're turned down.

but for ~1800 dollars in travel that might be worth it

It's like 2 hours from my house...lol. Like going to Disney, so eager to get there, but if I get denied that car ride home is going to suck. Going to try to call branch now and see if they can check on the phone.

So if I'm planning a trip to Hawaii next year is this card pretty much a no brainer?

when ya going?

the 300$ travel credit is based on the calendar year. so it resets in january. so as mentioned before the 300$ travel credit is really 600$.

the 100k UR points is 1500$ in travel through the UR portal or you can transfer them at a 1:1 value to any of their partner airlines. so yes, its a free trip to hawaii with this card.

Chase is also now a part of Android Pay. Android Pay is running a promotion with RadPad where there are no fee's when using your CC to pay through RadPad.

RadPad: a way to pay rent with a credit card. usually a 3% fee associated with it. The way it works is that you pay through RadPad and they write the landlord a check for him to cash.
AndroidPay: pay stuff using your phone!

So its a quick way to meet minimum spends that some of these cards require. I think the Chase card is 4k in 3 months. If you pay rent then this is a great way to quickly and easily meet minimum spends.

If I'm reading it correctly you also have to spend $4000 on purchases in the first three months after the account is opened to get the 100k points. No biggie if you spend that much anyway, just remember to use the right card and maybe switch over any automatic recurring charges.

Do those points expire?

probably would be next summer sometime. So I'd use the points for the flight and im sure I'd find something else for the travel credit.
