Got recalled today. Guess they really wanted that report. Staying in Florida until Monday. Not dealing with that cold.

I just learned that a an editor who was interested in some work I'm doing has moved from Poli Sci to Linguistics, and the new poli sci editor isn't interested in my project. It's a bit annoying, but in another way it's somewhat of a relief, since I wasn't entirely sure the project was a good fit with the publisher anyway. So, I'm going to shop the project around elsewhere. The initial press was not really that prestigious, so since I'm not in any rush, I'm thinking of approaching the most prestigious press I can think of and letting them turn it down first.

On the other hand, if there were a less prestigious press that was actually willing to offer an advance, I'd consider that too. (I do realize that non-established authors do not typically get an advance.)

Honestly, that is weird. I'd double check that they meant March 19th, instead of Feb 19th, which makes a ton more sense.

i haven't heard one way or the other. the mayor resigned and became interim manager a few weeks before they held interviews and i know he wanted the job permanently. i went in assuming he'd just remain in the position.

I need to find a recruiter. I haven't had regular work in over 6 months. It doesn't affect my pay but it's a massive bummer. I'm also serious concerned about taking a pay cut since I'm not in a position to do that.
I had a meeting at the Pentagon with lots of generals. They were like from a movie. Better looking than Tom Cruise & stronger.

Most recruiters are awful from my experience. Apply directly to companies and try to work with their internal HR/talent acquisition folks if possible.

Anybody know anything about Columbus, OH? Does it suck as much as I imagine it would suck?

What's important to you? Cost of living will be lower.

I guess I just figured everything in Ohio is kinda meh. Plus, I'd be nowhere near any family and I don't like cold weather. Anyway, I applied to a job that seems really cool, with what looks to be a great company. While the job description mentioned travel, it didn’t say the central location was in Columbus. It was advertised in Orlando and they have an office 3 miles away from where I live. Had an email exchange with the recruiter and he mentioned nothing about Columbus. He called today for a scheduled interview and the first thing out of his mouth was that the job was in Columbus and would I be willing to relocate. I didn’t say no, but that really came out of the blue and was taken aback by it. Really wish that would’ve been communicated in the job description or in his email.

It's about balancing your priorities. IIRC correctly proximity to family was important to you. You'd probably hate the weather 5 months out of the year. Does the opportunity outweigh those?

In very limited exposure that area felt midwest to me.

I don't know about renting but buying in Orlando was higher than a lot of places I considered during my last job search.

wow... you are right! it's kinda like the phx market. desert>swamp tho

other than literally on the beach, central florida on up was cheap as #$!&@.

but heard good things about columbus, nothing that would ever draw me there. knew more than a few people from ohio and it's like if they move back it's columbus and NEVER cleveland or the natti. kinda a rust belt austin? except it's cold and home to an inferior university.
