Hinkie's basically playing the NBA version of the red paper clip game.

Eventually he is going to have to make the move. I just think if they somehow did persuade Leonard in and drafted Russell they would be in SERIOUS business.

Probably a less than 0.1% chance that happens TBH.

IMO the sixers have one more year of "tanking" ahead (although they'll probably be in the high 20's win total wise if Embiid is relatively healthy) before they're ready to really start competing.

If Embiid is "relatively healthy" (which at this point is the biggest question mark), and we end up with a combination of Russell and another late 1st, then we are going to win 35+ games. Book it.

PG Russell
SG pick #23 (can Jerian Grant and Russell co-exist in same back-court?)
SF Covington
PF Noel
C Embiid

Embiid's a phenomenal prospect (probably the second best one overall behind AD since the 2007 draft), but he still has a lot of growing to do. He's turnover prone, fouls a lot, etc. All of that in time should be correctable with more experience, but in order for the 76ers to make that kind of turnaround he would need to be as good as rookie Lebron IMO.

I am excited about Embiid though. When guys as diverse as Bodner, Bilas, Ainge, that DeanOnDraft guy, and my dad all love him there's a great chance he's the real deal, provided he's not chronically injured.

Also, I think they'd start off Russell as a SG and let Ish man the PG spot for a year to ease him in and not put so much pressure on him to run an NBA offense from day one.

Generally I would agree with you, but at this point in the year (Given that they're all 2015 picks) it's more about the individual players available at those slots than the picks themselves.

in the abstract, yes. when the draft comes closer and you actually identify guys that can be of help and know they end up as ranking in the low 1st rather than the high to mid 2nd, it is worth it to go after the guy(s) you want.

Ford in his latest mock has the Lakers taking Porzingis and the Sixers taking Mudiay. Interestingly enough the Knicks then pass on Okafor and take Russell.

Yeah, dont see that happening.

However, if we do get pick #23 from Portland, how about UNLV guard Rashad Vaughn?

Sources say 76ers and Blazers have discussed a deal that would give Philly #23 pick in exchange for #35 and #37 picks (and possibly more).

Very literally just heard the same.

That would be an amazing trade wouldn't it?

This draft is generally considered to have a huge drop off after the late teens or so. Maybe the Blazers buy into that?

"Possibly more" being the key phrase here

Could be part of the trade with Knicks for #4?

702's a fan of him, right? Doesn't he have an analytic friendly stat profile with plus athleticism? Plus he's a lot younger than Wright/Grant.

That Ford mock isn't a mock, it's what he would do if he ran the teams. (unless we're looking at different things)

Dunno, but here's the title from ESPN: Lakers get Porzingis in Chad Ford's 'Grade: A' mock draft 2.0.. But yes, it is his thoughts as to what they should do.

Friend gave me a hypothetical of Embiid/3 for Boogie/Stauskas. That's a fun one.

I think I'd say yes

Yeah that's essentially what the teams would have to do to get an A grade from Ford.

More than half of the teams in the league have their own D League affiliates. I don't think it would be too hard to get them to agree to expand/improve the D League, especially with teams selling for north of a billion dollars. Also, if the D League starts paying competitive salaries and works as a true farm league for the NBA, it's going to attract top talent from all over the world and it would probably become pretty popular in the US.
