Giants @ Eagles (Predictions and Game Thread)

Postby VoxOrion » Mon Jan 08, 2007 5:39 pm

It wasn't mentioned here, and I don't know if his opinion matters at all - but Sal Palantonio was on the red-e-o this morning predicting that if the Eagles make it through NO, they'll go all the way to the super bowl (said he couldn't imagine the Seahawks beating the Bears, or the Bears beating the Eagles).

He picked yesterday's game within a point.

I have a hard time believing that they're going to win in NO.

Both teams finished 10-6 overall with a 9-3 conference record, so it's not like the Saints are a dominant AFC team. They have a good offense, a dome that can be loud, and a coach that kills the Eagles, but they also have a mediocre defense (they're starting Simoneau!), they don't create turnovers, they'll have an out-of-shape Hollis back, Joe Horn is doubtful, they have very-little-to-no playoff experience as a group, and they didn't face Garcia, Stallworth or a decent running game earlier this year. If the Eagles fall behind 14-0, then yeah it'll be difficult, but that's true for most playoff games....

I was arguing with someone over at philliesphans about a month ago. Considine really is terrible. He is a horrible tackler because he insists on trying to arm tackle up high. Nice open field tackles that he has are because he dives and grabs those ankles (I know). Look at the Burress missed tackle yesterday that could have cost them the game. He comes running at him and waves his arms around Plaxico's shoulders which are easily shrugged off. With 12 yards to the first down marker it was just a stupid and almost season ending play.

Is Michael Lewis really that washed up? I have a hard time believing that, but I don't watch the Eagles enough to know whether or not Lewis was awful enough to warrant replacing him with a guy who simply isn't very good.

He's not washed up, but he struggles so much in pas coverage that he's a liability. Considine has trouble making the tackle, but at least he knows where to be. Lewis is still falling for the same QB and receiver fakes he did as a rookie. He usually goes the wrong way. He'll get a deal somewhere, but it won't be in Philly.

Aw, Ed, not you, too! They didn't face Garcia, but they did face McNabb. who came into the game with a 4-1 record (could have easily been 5-0), and had thrown for 1582 yards, 11 touchdowns against only 1 pick.

Please, keep the Garcia thing in perspective. The Eagles have won his last six starts (okay, he didn't really play in the Falcons game), but all five wins were against teams that were in the midst of falling apart, or were Washington.

The Eagles-Saints game was just on NFL Replay on the NFL Network. I actually feel a lot better about Saturday after watching it. For some reason I remembered New Orleans offense playing a lot better. The key to the game will be our D's ability to stop the Saints on 3rd down which is what they couldnt do in the last meeting. We also need to get more pressure on the QB which is what bothers me more than stopping the run. Brees is almost unstoppable when he has time.

I think Brees has been saving up some special choke sauce for this weekend. Schottenheimer wouldn't let him use it last year.

No, but I did see the "Eli's adopted" sign

I always enjoy a good Fredo joke... but the truth is, Eli's last drive yesterday probably compares favorably to anything in Peyton's post-season career.

That's just irrational.

This is the only one I've seen so far. Nothing large for a PC wallpaper or anything....
