Is Gordon injured?

Postby Uncle Milty » Sat Apr 21, 2007 7:50 am

Is Gordon injured or just old? It seems he's been more effective this season after longer layoffs.

Old, possibly injured and sucky....a bad combination.

Very Bad Things, I just watched that the move the other night and it is funny as hell.

Gordon, he is just old and washed up. I don't even think he is hurting. He certainly doesn't suck, his arm is just not capable of what it used to be.

I think he could make a reasonable contribution in the pen pitching a couple of innings a week. I just don't want him closing.

We can't forget the hit that his arm took in Torre's bullpen. We were lucky to get anything good from him.

You are right, RT, his role needs to switch if this new bullpen allignment is going to work. Myers has got to be the closer, and has got to go more than a few innings on occasion, Let 6finger and Gordon interchange on setting up for Brett.

There should be another option for "all of the above."

He sucks because he's old and injured.

That's not to say all old pitchers suck. It's just that I think age has caught up to him enough that he can't pitch every single night and be effective.

Hey you, leave me alone!

As for Gordon, I'm almost hoping he's injured. I don't think it can be TOO long until this team moves Myers to closer, but then again this team moved Myers to the bullpen, so if they were dumb enough to do that they'll probably be dumb enough to keep him as 7th or 8th inning guy.

When Mathieson is fully healthy, we can move him to closer and move Myers back into the rotation where he should be. Once again, probably a much too logical scenario for this team.

The biggest mistake with Gordon was not moving him last year at the deadline when his value was at an all-time high.

I would have loved to see him moved for a young pitcher.

Maybe he was just getting Lieber back for blowing other people's starts in the pen. Flash has a sense of justice, maybe?

Why exactly would it be helpful if Gordon and Myers switched roles? Blowing leads in the 8th isn't really any better than blowing them in the 9th.

Technically, that's not entirely true.

You can come back in the 9th if a lead is blown in the 8th

See...better ;)
