2007 Draft: Phillies picks, bios, signings, etc.

In the Phillies world of wild overconfidence, this tends to mean that they have no shot at Workman and an outside shot at Sampson. Why do I have the feeling that the Phillies were hoping nobody would notice.

As the deadline approaches, I read a thing online today that the teams aren't that scared of the comissioners mandates as much as waiting for someone to 'go first' - and then you'll see a flurry of 'above slot' signings...just no team wants to go first, yet.

My final thoughts. I don't think we'll sign either.

you're wrong, you space cadet.

but i doubt that you'll mind. julian sampson has signed. link to follow...
if you don't know what the wrestlers are trying to do--how certain moves and holds are supposed to work and so forth, then it might just look like too sweaty guys rolling around on a mat.

Oh. I'm replying to a Steagles post. Um. OK.

BA has it. Don't know if this is premium only content:

Link

Signing bonus was $390,000 which shows me something.

I like being wrong on things like this. No one (except you) can be right all the time.

MLB wants picks after the fifth round to receive no more than the last slotted bonus in the fifth round, which was $123,300 this year.

And we gave Sampson, a 12th rounder, 390K. Nice job.

is there any chance at this point that workman signs?

I wonder if Salisbury's article had a little to do with the signing, the Phillies are PR paranoid to say the least.

Jim Callis quote from ESPN.com chat about 10 minutes ago

I think Workman will get done, but that's speculation--haven't heard anything concrete either way.

From Kevin Goldstein

JM (MD): The Phillies, in a surprise move, went over slot for Julian Sampson. What can you tell us about him?

Kevin Goldstein: It didn't cost them a ton -- really about third round money for a guy that one scout I know pegged as a second-round talent. Tall, skinny guy with a good fastball that could become better, and already a plus breaking pitch. Good sign.

So now that we signed Sampson, am I allowed to start hoping for a Mark Adzick miracle, or should I focus my prayers on Workman?
